How we handle your data
This notice covers everything on semiosphere.co.uk. The request form for the Semantic Integrity Framework paper has its own notice, which says the same things in more detail about that one form. Both are written to be read rather than to be survived.
Who is responsible
The data controller is Semiosphere, the practice that publishes this site. Write to us about anything on this page at info@semiosphere.co.uk. Semiosphere is a trading name rather than a company; if you want the name and an address for the individual behind it, ask at that address and we will give them to you.
What we collect, and why
Two things, and only when you offer them. If you register interest in Tessera, we collect the email address you give us and the name if you choose to give it; the email address is how we tell you when there is something to tell. If you write to us at the address above, we hold that correspondence so that we can reply to it and keep track of what was said.
Our lawful basis for both is legitimate interests: replying to someone who has written to us, and telling someone who asked to be told. You can object at any time by saying so, and we will stop.
What we do not do
We do not sell or rent your details, and we do not pass them to anyone else for their own purposes. We do not add you to a bulk mailing list: registering interest in one thing does not subscribe you to anything else. We set no analytics cookies and no advertising cookies, and we do not track you across other sites.
Who processes it for us
Netlify hosts this site and receives what the forms collect, holding it on our behalf so that we can read it. Microsoft carries our mail, so anything you send to the address above is processed there. Both act as our processors.
One transfer happens whether or not you send us anything: the pages on this site load their typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser requests those files from Google when a page renders, and Google receives your IP address in doing so. We would rather it did not, and serving the typefaces from this domain instead is recorded as work to do.
How long we keep it
Twenty-four months from the date you contact us, unless you ask us to delete it sooner, or unless our correspondence becomes a client engagement, in which case that engagement's own terms govern. After twenty-four months the record is deleted.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you may ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict what we do with it, and object to our using it at all. Write to info@semiosphere.co.uk and we will act within one month. There is nothing to pay.
If you think we have handled your data badly, you may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather you told us first, so that we can put it right.
Changes
This notice was last updated in September 2026. If we change what we collect, or why, we will change this page before the change takes effect.
